CREDO Joins Supreme Court Amicus Brief in Support of Gavin Grimm and Transgender Rights

I am extremely pleased to share with you that CREDO has joined a “friend of the court” brief in support of transgender student Gavin Grimm. This case is deeply important to us because it is everything we stand for as a company: we #StandWithGavin, for LGBTQ rights and for equality. Please read our press release about joining HRC and 53 other companies in the brief.

SAN FRANCISCO, March 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — CREDO, the mobile carrier with a conscience, has joined an amicus brief in support of Gavin Grimm, a 17-year-old transgender student who faces discrimination at school. This month, as the Supreme Court reviews G.G. v. Gloucester County, CREDO stands with Gavin and the LGBTQ community.

The amicus brief, led by Human Rights Campaign (HRC), urges the Supreme Court to uphold transgender students’ right to use bathrooms consistent with their gender identities. The Gloucester County School Board discriminated against Gavin by denying his right to use the bathroom of his choice. The amici, a coalition of well-known U.S. companies, argue that the Supreme Court must strike down Gloucester County’s stigmatizing, degrading policy.

For more than 30 years, CREDO has fought for equality for the LGBTQ community, women, people of color and immigrants. Today, CREDO is throwing its full support behind Gavin and transgender people throughout the U.S. by signing on to the brief. CREDO will continue to engage its network of over five million activists to fight right-wing extremists’ attacks on LGBTQ equality. The company also will continue to fund progressive organizations defending LGBTQ rights through CREDO Donations, its philanthropic arm.

“CREDO is proud to be part of the fight for Gavin and LGBTQ rights,” CREDO CEO Ray Morris said. “In fact, we can’t imagine not being part of this effort. Equality, dignity and respect for all people are at the core of everything we believe at CREDO. We stand with Gavin and all transgender people, and we will fight to ensure that discrimination has no place in our schools or anywhere else.”
